Can Your Windows Have Plantation Shutters?
Almost any window can have shutters installed. Some are more challenging than others.
First, does your window have trim surrounding it?Trim is wood 3 or more inches wide forming a frame around your window on the wall surrounding the window. Some windows have trim, some only have the dry-wall surrounding the window.
Second, does your window have depth? It is important to determine how much depth you have in your window. This is the distance from the wall in the room to the window.
Third, does your window have a sill? This is a shelf at the bottom of the window with an apron beneath it. This shelf sticks out beyond the wall from the window.
Begin by examining your windows closely. Look for any unusual trim, cranks or levers that might interfere with a shutter.

Your Windows Determine the Method of Installation
Windows with trim and no depth.
If your window has a frame trim around it, but has little or no depth (less than 3/4" depth), any shutter will have to be mounted in a frame on top of the window trim or built out on the wall surrounding the trim.
Windows with no trim and no depth.
If your window has no trim, only dry wall, your shutters can be installed with ez install frames that mount on the wall around the window. These frames can be three sided or four sided depending on whether your window has a sill.

Consider the EZ Face Mount Frame
For windows with no trim, only the dry wall surrounding the window, there is the EZ Face Frame. This frame sits on the drywall around the window and provides a trim for the window as well as a frame for the shutter.
The EZ Face Frame has a face strip which is removed to allow the frame to be screwed to the wall. After the shutter panels are installed, the face strip is replaced and the screw heads are covered, giving a completely finished look.

Hanging Strips for Windows With Trim and Depth
If your window has trim around it, and you have at least an inch of depth, the hanging strip is the easiest way to install. This strip is installed on each side of the window and wrap hinges, which attach to the outside edge of the shutter panel and then go around to the back of the shutters, attach to the hanging strips. The hinges are adjustable and allow the panels to meet flush in the center.
